Background

Lawrence has a professional background in architecture, while Portia’s background is in microbiology and community development.  They now work closely together in the implementation of community-based initiatives, delivering leadership and life-skills training, food nutrition and safety knowledge, psychosocial support for families affected by challenges that include health and poverty issues.

Vision

Lawrence and Portia share a passion to develop solutions addressing poverty-based issues, implementing income-generating projects in communities, fostering attitudes that lead to self-reliance, regenerating and transforming communities through the training, equipping and empowerment of motivated leaders.  Specific areas these solutions focus on include family development and marriage counselling, financial management, education, food nutrition and safety, HIV-awareness and support, and responsible citizenship.

Involvement with LNI

Introduced to LifeLine Network in 2006, Lawrence and Portia have since drawn on and contributed to the key values and essential practices that underpin the work of the network globally and, in their own words say they, “greatly benefiting from networking with other network members across the countries through sharing of ideas and finding solutions to various challenges faced in different places and contexts”.

Current Work

Lawrence and Portia currently manage several community-focused initiatives dealing with family development and marriage counselling, financial management, education, food nutrition and safety, HIV-awareness and support, and responsible citizenship and for the future are seeking opportunities to multiply their impact locally and nationally.
