It's all about give and take

We believe in… sustainability

The hardest thing about being HIV positive in Dominica is living with the fear of rejection. People are scared to test and to access free medication for fear of being ostracised by the community. Even with the right medication, poverty, bad housing and malnutrition combine to make life a struggle.

But the members of Life Goes On, a self help group of HIV positive people in Dominica, aren’t content to simply sit back and receive charity. The group has established a Dial A Ride Bus service for members of the general public with mobility challenges. They use their adapted bus to provide a hospital taxi service, take disabled children to school and run tours for disabled cruise ship tourists. The money they make from this covers the running costs of the bus and fund the food bank and meals on wheels services for other group members.

“Just because you have HIV doesn’t mean that you have to be a patient forever. We are providing an important service and no one knows who is positive or not. Our passengers just say thank God for Life Goes On!”
